Meydenbauer Modern

It’s always an honor when clients invite us back to collaborate on another whole-home renovation. It was fun to be asked to update this untouched 70’s-era home – and we thought about it from the perspective of how to weave in new lifestyle mojo, latest technology and modern materials into an already beautiful setting. When the homeowners decided to keep the original 1970s-era Malm fireplace, we pivoted our design plan to make it “the feature” of this great room kitchen design plan. Opening up the kitchen required structural support, so we turned that into a plus creating the rustic details and beam elements you see in these photos and carrying that detail throughout the home in various ways. A mixture of light and dark surfaces adds interest. The home sits in a park-like setting in an urban area, and added skylights combined with the generous windows create almost a treehouse feel.
